Red Fish in Your Sky
This is a refreshingly original package of songs by Holly Sedgwick, a poet who paints her songs. Her rich lyrical palette is draped over a multi dimensional musical landscape that sounds like a blend of folk, jazz and world music. Holly is an imaginative painter as are her songs, and she presents us with 16 of her colorful paintings and a booklet with her lyrics. OUR HOUSE BURNT BLUE is about growing up in a broken family, visiting the house of my Great grandmother. RED FISH is based on an airplane that ended in a crash landing when my father taught me how to \'porpoise\' through the sky like a flying fish. But things didn\'t go so smoothly because he forgot to lower the landing gear and we \'belly flopped\' onto the runway. CRIMSON RIBBONS comes from paddling in a canoe and seeing the Northern Lights over Ontario one night in Algonquin Park with my love. ECLIPSE MY HEART is a song about the twists and turns of love. KITTY is about a pacing catty hussy. THIRSTY SILVER SPOON is when Mama comes home tired and falls into a dreamy memory from her broken childhood. BROKEN BELL is a song about my wish for my grandmother to have had a happier life. RAGING FIRE, the guilt of those who are helpless witnesses when a war is raging. MIDNITE TRAIN: a mother locked in the eye of a hurricaine, after an incident of domestic violence, begs the Universe to protect her as she holds her baby in her arms. LEMME OUT is a fun song, that came out of raising my children.
