Jade CDs are widely heard on national and fine music stations throughout Australia, and are recognised as a valuable resource by educational authorities as being uniquely representative of the work of Australian composers. They are manufactured in limited runs of 500 and stocks are therefore may be regarded as collectors' items! All Jade CD covers are distinctive. Most Jade CDs have an anthology format and include works by several composers. It's great to have these CDs on offer for a wider audience at CD Baby. 'MUSIC FOR ALL SEASONS' JADCD 1097 Works by: Eric Gross, Ann Carr-Boyd, Robert Allworth. Duration: 50'23' Featured players in this engaging CD are Michael Hooper, mandolin; Esther Cheng, violin; Michael Tabrett, viola & Catherine Tabrett, 'cello. This group premieres new works by Gross & Allworth. Adding to Gross' already substantial contribution to mandolin repertoire is CONCERTO DA CAMERA (1997) in 4 movements. Reflecting, in it's structure, the musical traditions of Vienna and, in particular, the work of 18th century Czech composer Dusek. Gross achieves a pleasing fusion of past and present. A work of distinctive modernity. Also pleasing, and written for the same ensemble, are 3 new works by Allworth: MUSIC FOR ALL SEASONS is autumnal in character, giving clear themes in 12-note formations and sequential forms. In MEDITATIONS prominence is given to the mandolin, while in FOREVER SUNSET, inspired by Tennyson's poem 'The Lotus Eaters', the ensemble creates colouristic effects. Carr-Boyd's SUITE VERONIQUE for solo harpsichord (1982) places modern dance and folk rhythms in the structure of a baroque suite. The CD closes with a historic recording by the Choir of Christ Church St. Lawrence in Sydney, 1979, of NUNC DIMITTIS, conducted by Colin Sapsford.
