Born in South Africa, Iris began her singing career as a small child, performing regularly on radio for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Her involvement with the struggle against apartheid lead to her exile to England in 1963. This followed the detention of her husband by the apartheid regime along with other political leaders incuding Nelson Mandela. Iris began her acting career in London in 1980 and starting singing jazz again in 1995. Since then she has not only appeared at a variety of London venues including Pizza on the Park and the Vortex Jazz Bar, but also at the Royal Albert Hall with the ANC choir in honour of Nelson Mandela and before the South African President himself. She continues to perform regularly in London.
