If ever you wanted to take a chance on an indie production this is it! Top notch production and not just good but great songs throughout...Undertow by J. Mark Jones is destined for great things. J. Mark Jones began playing guitar in the early 70's and was heavily influenced by the likes of Peter Frampton, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Queen, Rush, Grand Funk Railroad, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and more recently by bands like Tears for Fears, Counting Crows and Coldplay. Throughout the 80's and 90's Mark focused on playing in various cover bands and established himself as a prominent guitarist and singer. During this time Mark also began writing his own material which often received glowing reviews from fans and critics. Inspired, Mark finally set out to focus on his own original material. His new album 'Undertow' (released in September 2004) is the culmination of that effort. And what an effort !! Produced by Todd Jones, 'Undertow' is an impressive array of rock melodies supported by tasty and well arranged guitar. In a recent interview when asked about the concept for the album Mark said ' I wanted to write songs with heavy rock guitar and melodic influences...I also wanted rock songs that had deeper meanings to them than just the typical sex, drugs and rock-n-roll themes that seem so devoid of substance. In other words things I am not hearing on the radio anymore.' The Album really delivers on all counts with a wide variety of melodies and guitar styles and very sincere lyrics.
