'My November Guest' was originally conceived as a musical adaptation of the 1949 British film classic, 'The Glass Mountain'. Near the end of the 2nd World war, Richard Wilder, a British Air Force pilot crash lands in the Italian Alps. Alive but near death, a beautiful but mysterious girl appears and nurses him back to health while inspiring him with verses of 19th century romantic poetry. Is the girl real or the spirit of legend who haunts the Glass Mountain? Despite her pleas to stay the pilot leaves the Glass Mountain after the war and returns to his wife and profession as a composer-singer in London. Torn between his renewed love for his wife and his obsession with the mysterious beauty on the Glass Mountain, Richard is driven to write a song cycle based on the romantic poetry he heard while on the Glass Mountain and travels to Rome to sing the premiere performance of his work. On the way to join him, the plane on which his wife is a passenger crashes into the Glass Mountain, killing everyone aboard. Richard returns alone to the Glass Mountain to mourn the loss of his two great loves and to ponder the meaning of his life. The "My November Guest" CD contains the entire song score, sung by Mr. Anest and accompanied by the composer, Jon Naples. Considered one of the most unique musical theater works ever conceived, in that the song lyrics are by real poets (E.B. Browning, Lord Byron, WB Yeats, William Blake, Edna St Vincent Millay and Robert Frost) and yet serve to superbly advance the plot of the story. With "Old School" engineering techniques, you might even think you dropped the needle on an LP (without all those pops and clicks). Dr. Naples compositions have been featured in numerous venues, including the International Music & Arts Festival, The New School in New York, the California Institute of the Arts, Japan America Theater in Los Angeles, and Pasadena Presbyterian's Music At Noon Series with Vocal Artist James Anest. Jon is also a frequent contributor of original new repertory through commissions from the Devine School For Guitar in Cardiff, California as well as arranger and orchestrator for the school's recent performances with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. Jon holds a Doctorate of Music Degree from the University of Southern California. James Anest has performed in Musicals, Opera, Theater and TV. He is a regular roster member of several opera companies across the US, including Opera Santa Barbara and The Los Angeles Opera. He is the winner of numerous awards, including the prestigious National Arts Award and has been seen on MTV. This is James' second recording. His first entitled "Calvary Street" is a Christian/Inspirational album also available here on CD Baby.
