Product Notes

Every once in a while, a new artist splashes onto the scene with an unexpected, refreshing sound that catches you completely off guard and knocks you right off your seat. Often it's because of how that person rearranges the usual elements in creative ways. With NYC-based singer/songwriter Jane Dubz, that is exactly the case. Her soulful vocals, backed by a driving, slightly harder than average pop-rock vibe, don't quite sound like anyone else. Growing up, Jane became interested in finding her own voice, musically and as a person. She gravitated toward artists with their own sounds, and cites Erykah Badu and Madonna as primary influences: Madonna, of course, for being the always-evolving chameleon, unapologetically unique; Erykah, for being so incredibly soulful and one of the few artists who finds inspiration in all forms of music, from hip hop to classic rock. Today, Jane has remained true to the spirit of those artists, doing things her own way. Her mix of pop-rock and R&B is at once radio-friendly, yet different, featuring soulful vocals, thick guitars and popish melodies. Imagine Kelly Clarkson with a Teena Marie edge, Joss Stone with some Kelis attitude. Besides these obvious musical influences, Jane's own philosophy is a current bubbling beneath every track. She is driven, yet grounded, not taking life too seriously, but incredibly grateful to be alive and this energy comes across in the music. Music is deeper than a lot of her prepackaged peers because of the emotional depth of her lyrics. They are at once youthful, deep and not too serious all at once. And when she sings in Let Go, 'I'm sorry you had to hear this, but I just want to say; you don't have to live your life, for anyone but you,' it perfectly sums up her music - and her. Currently, Jane Dubz is at work creating new material with buzz-worthy producer extraordinaire, Jay Deasel (Shayna Zaid, Wynter Gordon), and also working alongside Adam Williams of LA-based Qi Lab Studios. She's busy writing, recording, and rehearsing for upcoming live performances, and in the meantime, her debut EP "Scorpio," produced by Jay Deasel of Deasel Music, is available now.
