Janubia's voice is a rare jewel. With it's unique quality and her unerringly, authentic delivery, she has been likened to Astrud Gilberto, Basia, Rickie Lee Jones, Flora Purim and Alison Goldfrapp. Janubia, however, is definitely on her own page - She sings in her own language. More obvious than the lack of recognizeable lyrics is the consistant emotional honesty conveyed throughout Mother Tongue. Many fans, individually reporting their listening experience of the CD, amazingly, have nearly identical personal accounts. Perhaps the lyrical analysis wouldn't stand up in a professor's analytical dissertation but those who have heard her sing, undoubtedly, recognize something genuine. 'If there's anything at all that I might like to represent, it's simply that we all have access to 'Source' or, as I like to call it, 'the Juice'. Doing music is my expression. We all have our own marvelous transmission.' ~ Janubia.
