The State Newspaper, 2/2/06: Soundwaves | 'Street Songs' eases the drive Sometimes it takes something more - like music - to make you realize the beauty of the city you live in. Thankfully, we have Jason Watkins' "Street Songs." Watkins, a solo pianist and Columbia resident, composed eight songs and named them after streets we drive on every day. There's "Laurel," "Greene," "Blossom," "Gervais," "Trenholm," "Saluda," "Devine" and "Forest." "Blossom's" somber tones and the delicate slow motion of "Gervais" will help ease the headache of moving through downtown traffic - especially if there's a train. "Street Songs" have kept me from pounding my steering wheel on Taylor and Huger streets. Maybe it could do the same for you. - Otis R. Taylor Jr. The State, Columbia SC.
