Touched By War
On his second full-length release titled Touched By War, singer/songwriter Jay Ekis explores personal and social conflict in songs that are dark, revealing, melodic, and at times optimistic. Inspired by the country-noir of Bruce Springsteen's 'Nebraska' and Mary Gauthier's 'Mercy Now,' the album presents the American musical landscape from rock and country to spirituals in solo acoustic and thundering electric band arrangements. 'All of these songs were written on the acoustic guitar and were played during solo performances' Jay elaborates. 'This was originally intended to be an acoustic CD; in the rehearsal process though, as band members were introduced, the songs naturally took on a sound of their own which represented the interests of the group's desire to cut loose.' Jay has played extensively throughout Vermont and the region over the past ten years as bandleader, sideman, and solo artist. Some of the most exciting venues he has performed include: SXSW, Northeast Kingdom Music Festival, The Living Room, opening at Higher Ground for Sean Lennon, the legendary Stone Pony, and Charlie O's.
