Like most musicians growing up in the early seventies I was exposed to many musical influences. From the Beatles to Santana,BB King,Steely Dan,Ray Charles, and Pink Floyd just to name a few. I was drawn to guitar players that played with emotion and feeling. It didn\'t have to be fast but the musical phrasing had say something about that artist. That if someone else tried to play those notes in that order, you would still know it wasn\'t them. I was also drawn to great lyrics. There are allot of songs where the words are just an after thought. Something that just takes up space on the track. But finding lyrics that tell a story or just touch a part of life that resonates with others is very special. The subject doesn\'t have to be deep, just something that is true and seems to be common to others. Trying to unite these to elements is every song writers passion as well as mine. I play guitar, mandolin, and keyboards to flesh out my songs. I would play better if I could. But I hope that what I play evokes the simple honesty and emotion from the listener that I feel while performing. Jeff Laurain.
