Dublins Fair City
The outstanding feature of Joan Merrigan's singing career is her ability to be equally comfortable in many artistic disciplines. She enjoys performing opera, musical comedy, oratorio and Irish songs, and has been particularly successful devising, presenting and directing her own concerts including entertainment programmes such as 'A Tribute to Percy French','Just A Song At Twilight' (the life of James Joyce told through music and song), 'A Tribute to Julie Andrews' and 'A Celebration of Ireland through Music and Song'. All of these are performed with orchestra or her ten member ensemble, entitled 'Sounds Classical' She also presents her programmes at high profile corporate events. Over the years Joan has performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Glasgow Philharmonic, the Malmo Symphony Orchestra of Norway and the Irish National Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Irish Radio and Television, (RTECO). She has frequently performed in the USA, including a coast to coast tour for Columbia Artists. Her American operatic debut was in Pittsburgh Carnegie Hall and she was subsequently invited to perform her Celebration of Ireland programme at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. She made her Irish operatic debut with the Wexford Festival Opera. She has recently released her CD Joan Merrigan 'In Dublin's Fair City' and has just completed a series of children's stories for television entitled The Adventures of Candy Floss.
