Prayer Songs of Reflection*Praise & Purpose
I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN as the oldest of 6 children who all attended Parochial schools. As the oldest, I was pressed into service to help whenever I could from scrubbing bathtubs, cutting grass, changing diapers, mashing potatoes and eventually handling car pool duties the moment I turned 16. I am very much a Family man and since high school, I have sung in church choir groups, folk groups and jazz bands. I began writing songs as a means of expression strongly influenced by the some of the best bands of the day like Simon and Garfunkel; Peter, Paul and Mary; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Judy Collins and many other folk, pop of the day. I was particularly drawn to their unique blend of voices and sweet harmonies. I was fortunate to find a beautiful woman, married and sired two beautiful children, fully grown now. I realized that as a Father and friend to my children, I was compelled to go beyond nurturing words and good example by relating through songwriting. I found this means of communication a way to teach my children right from wrong and offer some guidelines on making good choices when the time came to do so. I also found it a way to tell my stories, convey my religious and social values and chronicle who I am to help validate my purpose in this life. I apparently had more to say than expected as the music poured out me and came very easily. I knew I had found my passion. Furthermore, after a couple wake up calls, some major life events and struggles, I learned that new growth opportunities were possible. I took a positive approach and had faith in myself with a lot of great support. I could turn despair into hope, stagnation into new ideas and effect positive change in others after my own life's tests. Anything is possible with God's help. Almost four years ago, I was invited by a friend to a reunion of my old High School Folk Group and several other groups/bands for a music rich, 50th birthday party. Every group/band that the birthday boy had ever been with performed culminating into one big finale. We sang, "The Lights of the City" rockin' the roof off an old school gym almost literally. Immediately after this tribute, I was asked to sing harmony in the local church band. Just for the record, my right ear which I can wiggle on demand allows me to find good harmonies and helps blend well with others. I began singing harmony developing along the way with great tutors and now do some lead vocals too. The band did an incredible CD of original music by the Band leader two years ago which got me excited about doing my own CD. I have written in the vicinity of 70 songs, many in the last four years about family life, love, Christian values, the struggle to succeed, ballads and a few funny songs too. I truly feel a calling to help others through prayer centered music as an aid to piety, spiritual reflection, retreats, group meetings and just plain relaxation. I hope you will take a "leap of faith" with me and enjoy listening to this sample of my music with many more tunes to follow. Thank you.
