Welcome to the Kids Music Underground!
Hi, and welcome to the Kids Music Underground, where we like to follow the vibrations of music wherever they lead us - collecting songs along the way, and connecting kids around the world. Music is everywhere - in the streets, the air, the oceans, rivers, the trees and the mountains. Music pulses through the Earth like a heartbeat, so everyone can feel it, enjoy it and pass it along! The Kids Music Underground was founded in 2006 in New York City by renowned early childhood music educator and performer John Carlin. A former RCA recording artist and critically-acclaimed songwriter, John began teaching Music For Aardvarks classes for toddlers in 2000 as a way to spend more time with his young daughter. Within a year, there were waiting lists to get into his classes, and he was teaching well over a hundred families per week. At the same time, he began performing family concerts, and was soon selling out esteemed NYC venues such as The Living Room, Southpaw, Bay Street Theater, and World Café Live. In 2006, he released his debut album, 'First Time For Everything', which TimeOut NY Kids called "one of the best kids' albums we've heard in some time." That same year, he started The KMU, an innovative and exciting new program of early childhood music education classes in several NYC neighborhoods. Once again, 'word of mom' was swift and strong. With his goofy charisma and boundless energy, John introduced hundreds of children and their families to wonderfully engaging, well-crafted songs that not only entertained, but educated young listeners in the fundamentals of rhythm and melody. They also stood up to repeated (and we mean repeated!) listenings. With the release of the new CD, 'Welcome To The Kids Music Underground!, John has further expanded his vision of musical and cultural diversity within the family music genre. " I want to teach kids about global cultures through music, and make this Big World a little smaller and more accessible to little people, in fun and groovy ways. Sorta like Sly and the Family Stone meets Mr. Rogers, except now, 'the neighborhood' is the world. Come join us!
