Since 1971, Jon Gailmor has been performing in schools, colleges, resorts, restaurants and folk clubs throughout the country, serenading at child care and senior centers, singing at prisons, hospitals, corporate and private parties, delivering unorthodox high school commencement addresses and talking to students far and wide about alternative career choices. Jon presents songwriting residencies and workshops for students in pre-school through college, and helps companies and other organizations create their own masterpieces. 'Checking In' is Jon's sixth and latest CD, and has a lot to do with waking up one morning and discovering you're older than 50. True-to-form, it's a multi-genre collection of original songs-sometimes poignantly introspective, other times absurd and nonsensical, often rousing and downright raucous, always genuine, lyrically rich and thoroughly thought provoking. There's rock 'n roll, swing, jazz, gazillion-part a capella harmony (all Jon), pure folk and more, both accompanied by some of Vermont's finest musicians and with just Jon on vocals and guitar. 'Checking In' is full of humor and emotion and fraught with optimism, designed to entertain and enlighten listeners prenatal through prehistoric.
