Jose Luis Passalacqua Guitarist and Composer Born in Puerto Rico December 8th 1965, Jose began guitar studies at the age of fifteen with virtuoso guitarist Juan Sorroche. In 1984 he was accepted to the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras' campus and was awarded full tuition by the Department of Humanities. At the UPR he continued studies with Mr. Sorroche for two years performing in cultural and student activities at the university. In 1986 Mr. Passalacqua was accepted at the renowned Mannes College of Music in New York (Music School of the New School University . At Mannes he studied with Sharon Isbin who greatly helped him acquire the techniques necessary to become a concert artist. He graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor degree in classical guitar performance. In 1991 Jose began graduate studies in performance at the university of Miami with Maestro Juan Mercadal who reinforced and fine-tuned his performance abilities. While in Miami he completed a rigorous music program that included composition, performance and music education. In 1993, after completing a Master's degree in classical guitar performance, he was awarded a full scholarship to obtain a Doctorate of Musical Arts. During this time he taught courses in music performance conducting private lessons and ensembles at the U.M. During his term at the University of Miami, Mr. Passalacqua won the Arts America Classical Guitar Competition and was awarded the prize of Artistic Ambassador of the United States to Cyprus, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Tunisia, Israel and the West Bank, and Belgium. During the tour as Artistic Ambassador, Jose performed and gave master classes at universities and cultural centers in the various countries where he performed. After his successful performances while touring, Jose returned to the U.M. to complete his doctoral studies. In the year 2000, after completing all requirements he earned a degree of Doctor in Musical Arts. In 1998 Mr. Passalacqua began his career as teacher of music in Springfield, Massachusetts. During this time he will begin sketches for composing music for his first record: 'Twilight', which was recently released on CD. The recording contains original music for ensemble using a variety of world rhythms as well as Latin American Music for solo classical guitar.
