Product Notes

Joseph Pusey was a master musician who could turn any stringed instrument into an orchestra. He started amazing family and friends at the age of seven and kept it up right through Spice of Life, his last project and his parting gift to the music lovers and the belly dancers of this world. Joseph had a fine ear and a great memory. If he'd heard a song once, he could be counted on to recreate it for you. He loved to play and sing for a crowd, be it a small late night family gathering in the living room or a field full of folks at the Oregon Country Fair. His early music reflects the popular genres of the time: folk, folk rock, progressive and psychedelic rock. His later work embraces traditional music from around the world. He incorporated all the music that moved him into his work and created his own unique blend. Musicians and dancers who had the chance to work with Joseph knew him as a collaborator, teacher and, above all, a good friend. Discography: In My Lady's Chamber (Solo, 1977, Cerebella Records, currently out of print) Dance with Gladness ((Brothers of the Baladi, 1982, 2004, Baladi Productions) Food of Love ((Brothers of the Baladi, 1983, 2004, Baladi Productions) Beyond the Tenth (Brothers of the Baladi, 1989, 2004, Baladi Productions) Sands of Night (Joseph Pusey and Robaire Nakasian, 1992, Bedouin Spice Records) Sands of Night II (Joseph Pusey and Robaire Nakasian, 1994, Bedouin Spice Records) Spice of Life (Takim--Joseph Pusey, Kevin Hylton and Bob Rause, 2004, Bedouin Spice Records) Bob Rause not only recorded, engineered and mixed 'Spice Of Life,' he also played keyboards on the project. Bob, who was born in Chicago in 1953, started playing organ when he was five years old, and went on to play top 40 hits and original music with a number of groups. He moved to Oregon in 1976, and toured the U.S. & Canada until 1981. He's been the Recording Engineer/Producer at Cornerstone Audio LTD since 1981. An all-round musician, Bob writes, arranges and produces. His instruments include Hammond B-3, piano, synths, 6-string electric guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar, bass guitar, bass pedals, percussion and flute. He can also be counted on for lead and backup vocals. To round things out, Bob has designed and built nine studios in Oregon, New York City, Chicago and Kentucky. Bob played keyboards and bass with Joseph Pusey and Kevin Hylton from 1997 to 2004. Kevin Hylton is a great percussionist who also happens to be a full-time lawyer. He played with Joseph for thirteen years, which he calls 'a pretty good run. I doubt that I will ever feel the same playing with anyone else again.' He says Joseph was a friend who let him find his own way. Well, that's what friends are for.
