The other side of Judd Watkins is jazz. Baltimorean,Judd Watkins began to persue his professional career as a vocalist 35 years ago. His perception and knowledge of musical roots of blues and jazz led him to be pursued by many groups and many performances in the Baltimore/Washington area. These experiences showcased his inventive and formidable style,catapulting him into a union with the 'post pop band' formed by webster lewis in Boston,mass. This group toured the us and europe for 12 yrs. The highlitesbeing a performance at carnegie hall in NY (sept 1974)and in europe on the same bill with with jazz greats as dizziegillespie,sonny rollins,and don cherry. An album entitled 'live atclub 7' recorded in oslo Norway resulted in this experience. Now after mellowing with age and experience,judd now presents his first jazz CD with theexpert accompaniment and the musical engineering of guitarist o'donel levy. With thius union,you hear the clear,rich,melodious sounds of judd,s baritone voice. This is displayed in his renditions of 'here's to life' and 'somewhere over the rainbow.
