Angels in the Slipstream
Slipstream / 'slipstri: m/ n. an assisting force regarded as drawing something along with or behind something else. Three weeks. That's what it took to write Angels in the Slipstream. Talk about being in the slipstream! Let me explain . . .it started when I called-up Jude to produce a song I had written for a spiritual healer from India. We recorded the song but within days, I was commissioned to write an entire album. Scrambling, I asked Jude if he would like to co-write it with me. We had no idea what was about to unfold . . . Jude pulled out an exquisite piece of music he'd written months before that was complete except for lyrics. I took it home and sat and listened to it for several hours on my car stereo until I emerged with a complete set of lyrics. The song was Scent of Rose, and the genesis of what would become our very own album and our powerful musical partnership was born. We became Jude Rain - brought together by one of life's wonderful and unexpected twists of fate. Once we started, the songs just flowed. Jude would usually produce a melody and some chords and I would go home and write the words the very same day. Then we'd go back-and-forth editing lyrics, adding and fine-tuning, but mostly it seemed that the songs were writing themselves. As Hank Williams once said, 'I pick up the pen and God moves it'. We had some great discussions about our spiritual beliefs and found that what we were writing perfectly reflected them. One weekend we produced three songs simultaneously: Fingers of God, I Found the Temple, and I Will Follow Thee! Just when I thought we had finished writing the album, I arrived at the studio to find Jude singing the opening lines to a new song called, Angels in the Slipstream. I think we both knew immediately that this was going to be the title track. It just had that feel. It was magical. It epitomized our spirituality in one easy catch phrase: All we are and all we'll be, is angels in the slipstream. Simple. Sublime. We had almost finished recording when I found a sweet little melody running through my head. We quickly captured the song and knew it would be the perfect end to our album. The entire creative process and all the songs had been such a gift, we felt like we just had to offer our gratitude - in song. Jude Rain is about the sacred union of female and male energy. The anima and animus that lives within the human psyche. It is only when this energy is balanced within each one of us, and then with each other, that we will be able to experience true harmony. All of us really are just 'lights set in motion' and all contribute to the health and healing of our fellow beings and the planet that we share. We hope the music of Jude Rain touches your heart, inspires, and reflects your own journey - as it has ours.
