Thejudes - aka The St. Judes, saint. Judes and countless other variations - are a four piece from Dublin Ireland formed in the mid-nineties. Lapsed and lapsing they may still be watched over by the patron saint of hopeless cases. Progress for thejudes has always been glacial; recording sporadically and playing irregularly. Depsite this they have a loyal following... but because of this they have a long suffering following. After a years stint in Chicago playing as 'The Nomads' childhood friends Gerry Nelson (drums) & Peter O'Connell (Voice Guitar) returned to Ireland with the idea of forming the 'Saint Judes'. The band assembled in it's first incarnation in 1994 with a gig in Dublin's Eamon Doran's. That line up featured singer/somgwriter Brendan O'Shea - now based in New York - on bass, Colin 'the shoulder' Campbell on guitar and Peter's baby brother Andrew O'Connell also on guitar. Andy had to show ID to prove he was 18 to get in and play. The band played regularly supporting the likes of 'Something Happens', 'Blink' and 'The Revenants' Since that early gig the band has had one or two line up changes with a couple of bass players; notably Kevin Greene one who later featured in The Plague Monkeys. From 1998 the line up settled to the four regulars: Gerry Nelson on drums, John Lalor on bass - who formerly played with The Swinging Swine, Peter O'Connell on guitar and vocals and his brother Andrew on guitar. Thejudes took a break in 2000 and somehow it stretched to 2007 - time to emigrate, get married, have kids, turn forty and produce four songs depending on who you ask. But all this is set to change with the much anticipated release of new material. The ep 'thanksdriver' is due for release on October 19th.
