Kevin Sands grew up fooling around on the family up-right piano. His first musical memory was listening to his mother Nonie playing songs on the piano while family and friends sang along. Kevin has been fascinated by singers, musicians and recording as far back as he can remember. In High School he studied Latin for 5 years, translating poetry and prose from Latin to English and vice versa. This along with being an avid reader set the stage for his love of the original lyric. He wrote his first song in his teens just around the time his friend Tom Evans placed a harmonica in his hands. "I felt an affinity for the instrument instantly and I've been playing it ever since". Singing and jamming along with records was a big part of the learning process but it didn't compare to playing live with friends. One of my first concerts was at the Northern Lights Folk Festival in 1975. His first appearance on a recording was Rodney Brown's album "Rodney Brown and Friends" Kevin hooked up with the Earthshine Band and performed on the "Live at the Bess" album in 1977. In 1980 the band moved to Calgary and made it their home base for touring and recording. Many sessions and recordings later Kevin moved over to the film and television industry and became a Production Sound Mixer. If you go to IMDB.com and do a search on his name it will give you an in depth list of the movies and TV series he has worked on. "In 1997 I bought an acoustic guitar and returned to my passion of singing and songwriting. I hooked up with my long time musical friends Phil Krawczuk, Glen Rowley and Brent Saklofke and "The Earth Kings" were born. Kevin's first album of original songs is now a reality. "The Courting" is being released by The Earth Kings Productions Inc. This album was produced and recorded by Phil Krawczuk at his Emerald Ridge studio located near Chilliwack, B.C. and is graced by the performances of some truly fine musicians. "I drifted away from music for many years but with the love and support of some incredibly talented artists, I have returned. I intend to write, play, create and perform for as long as I can draw a breath".
