Shagbark Hickory Spirit
Inspiration for the 'Shagbark' CD was born from the book, 'Icons of the Mythic Self: Journey into the Realm of Personal Discovery, co-authored by Kristi Cowles and Patrick Price. These fourteen piognant songs introduce sections of this imaginary work on personal mythology and encourage you to bring alive your deepest dreams and desires. Since Kristi Cowles is a deep-ecologist, her lyrics and music reflect her convictions regarding Earth care and the Wild. Also, 'Shagbark' doesn't really fit into any category that 'CD Baby' offers (a good news/bad news statement). Prior to her present entreprenerial adventures, she sang professionally for seventeen years.-- 5 - 6 nights per week -- in southeastern Wisconsin. In 1990, Kristi founded Singing Wolf Center and Pederson Victorian B&B and in 1998, Singing Wolf Productions. A feisty cultural pioneer, she holds a Master of Arts in East/West Psychology from the CaliforniaInstitute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. Her undergraduate work was in psychology and philosophy at Alverno College. Her first CD, 'Shagbark Hickory Spirit' contains fourteen original songs. Her second,'A Thousand Times I've Thought of You,' is dedicated to her brother, GregCowles, who died in 1998. It honors all who have gone before us. Her third CD, 'Woman of the North,' debuts in April of 2003. This CD 'talks turkey,' yet all of Kristi's CDs offer the listener heart, meaning, and a rootedness that tends to be missing in present American culture.
