Into the Fire
Krylyn has been a singer/songwriter for over 20 years, using songwriting as a way to heal, make sense of life, and connect with others. A means of expressing her feelings, songwriting became her "drug of choice" as a teenager, a way to cope with a family plagued by alcoholism and mental illness. Professionally, Krylyn was drawn to psychology. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Counseling. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), she has worked with adults and children in crisis, outpatient, and school settings. Determined to combine her passions for music and healing, she developed the Tuneagers Songwriting Therapy program to help others find healing in songwriting. She piloted the program with at-risk youth and presented her findings to a national audience at the American Counseling Association annual conference in 2004. She began writing songs specifically about mental health topics in 2004, which was the beginning of her latest CD, Into the Fire. Inspired by her work with clients, the songs on the CD cover a variety of topics, including the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist, being diagnosed with a mental illness, facing fear, change, depression, suicide, and borderline personality disorder. In addition to being a therapist and songwriter, Krylyn is also an author and speaker, addressing mental health issues and using sound and music for healing purposes.
