Kyung Kim Trio
Kyung Kim began playing classical piano in Korea at the age of seven. Her first lessons were with a music professor from Seoul University. Upon graduating from high school she began playing numerous venues with a semi-classical/pop combo. Around this time a friend took her to a Jazz and blues club near a U.S. army base. She fell in love with Jazz and soon began her quest to emigrate to the United States in order to study jazz piano and theory. Upon her arrival in the United States, Kyung enrolled at Los Angeles City college and studied music theory and English as a second language. Her first private jazz piano lessons were there with music professor Laslo Czer. Her next move was to the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, from which she graduated with a foundation in modern jazz. Currently Kyung is working towards her a degree in Jazz studies at California State University Northridge and studying Jazz Piano with Matt Harris, former Keyboardist with Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich, and taking vocal lessons with USC Professor Matt Falker. In 2002 Kyung Kim released her debut solo CD entitled, 'The Kyung Kim Trio' which features Jazz standards and original pieces. In 2005, Kyung released a second CD, this time with a vocalist and a jazz quartet.
