Product Notes

When you fix up a trained classical guitarist who loves underground hip-hop, with a double bassist into Strauss & Mahler but obsessed with alt-rock, to a keyboardist perfecting her singer songwriter craft and join a drummer who has dabbled in everything from free-jazz to folk; what would you expect to hear? Vancouver based Language-Arts have woven an intricate spread of sounds that have taken them from coast to coast, winning them a widespread of appeal. In April '05, they were invited to open for Xavier Rudd at the Telus Worlds Festival in Whistler BC. A serious buzz began during the Language-Arts appearance at the Halifax Pop Explosion in '06. Then at the NW Folk Life Festival, Seattle Sound Magazine announced their signature blend of genres in the Sasquatch Festival Guide. Following the release of their debut album ' ' ('07), Language-Arts charted on numerous campus/community radio stations across Canada. Their sold out performance at the TD International Atlantic Jazz Festival in '07 led to their invitation to Sled Island Festival in Calgary in '08. The 'Small Run EP' is a commemoration of their debut national tour and hard copy CD's were only available from stage on this tour. The EP is a sampling of what's to come on their new album which will be released in '09, though the 'Small Run EP' is now available in digital form through itunes. Language-Arts dole out an endearing potluck of ideas and are often being compared to artists like Stereolab, Buck 65 and Suzanne Vega. With their organic nature and varied musical backgrounds, the four continue to intrigue audiences with their pasture of styles and sounds. Instrumentation: Kristen Cudmore - Classical Guitar and Vocals Michael Vaughan - Double Bass Gregor Phillips - Drums Karma Sohn - Keyboards.
