Play Me Cool
Lanier is no stranger to the music scene. He played piano and arranged background vocals with such groups as The Paramounts, The Sevilles, and The Thor- ables (Get that bread)Lanier's unique piano style always gave an edge in the studio and on the stage. Lanier decided to step away from music for a number of years, only to return now -- refreshed and with new sound trac's that are cool, intellectual, jazzy, and tantalizingly hip Lanier describes how he created 'Play Me Cool': 'As I passed my studio, I could hear in my mind, the beats of a bass drum like the haunting sounds of a war dance in progress - boom-boom-boom-boom! I knew then, that if I did not bring that sound to life it would continue to repeat itself in my head. It had to be born. I sat down at my keyboard of multiple sounds and began to copy the sound, boom-boom-boom-boom. It began to pulsate with a groove too smooth to stop. Next, I laid down the piano chords. Then came the horns, strings, bass, and the remaining percussion, interwoven with love and soul. I was captured and another set of songs were born.' I was in another world aaaah! Man ! thi is cool..... The first cut on the CD, 'Drinkin' Wine', has a Joe Sample flavor that rides and grooves to a cool beat. As 'Gypsy Dancer' plays, it takes you there -- you see her move and dance. The cut, 'When Ever We Get Close', makes you want to get close to the special someone you know. Go ahead check him out. 'Play Me Cool' is an outstanding CD to add to anyone's collection.
