Ride Your Static
Laserhead combines some of the best elements of indie, shoegaze, and punk rock into their own distinct sound. Richard Ridinger's guitar chords are dripping with distortion and piercing effects while his evocative and rich vocal melodies soar above the music with ease. Chico's solid bass lines and Dan Taylor's powerful drum beats complete the atmospheric sonic landscape. At times, the resulting sound recalls early Dinosaur Jr and Swervedriver, but it's also much more than that. The complex and dynamic songs sound like they were carefully crafted with painstaking care, like a sculptor shaping an image out of clay. They employ richly textured verses which move organically into gripping choruses that are both challenging and accessible. The end product is artsy and technical punk rock driven by a keen understanding of pop sensibilities.
