Product Notes

The Last Front are two astronomers (Chris & Ned), one physicist (Kevin), and one reptile loving drummer (Juan). We play loud songs about living in outer space and the biological, theological, and social evolution of human beings. Our band is based out of Boston, MA, where we attend the graduate school at Boston University and Berklee College of Music. Our areas of expertise include: Colliding galaxy clusters, the scattering of starlight off of space dust, the physical properties of liquid water, the direct imaging of extra-solar planets using rockets, and playing drums. The Last Front began playing in December of 2007 and our reception warmed along with the northern hemisphere in 2008. We've mostly been playing shows in Boston and the surrounding territories, usually on the first of every month, usually at clubs like O'Brien's Pub, Great Scott, and The Middle East. Our music is listed under space rock, or space punk. It is important to realize that we consider ourselves a part of these genres in only the most literal sense. These songs are in no way spacey, they are however written with a cosmic perspective and a humbling respect for what nature can accomplish in a billion years. We are very proud to present our first formal recording. An EP entitled "Being Human". The cover artwork is taken from the Pioneer 10 spacecraft. Launched in 1972, Pioneer 10 was the first human made object to leave our solar system and enter interstellar space. Pioneer 10 is now 9 billion miles away from Earth. These images are engraved on the side of Pioneer as a sign to any intelligent life it encounters that we exist. We take comfort in the fact that this beacon of life has been sent out, and no matter how badly we screw up as a species it will travel on without us. This interstellar message in a bottle may go unread for billions of years.
