Biography of Nigel Anderson (Legin) After mowing lawns for two summers, Nigel finally saved enough money to buy his first keyboard at the age of 15. For the next few years, he enjoyed creating music and writing lyrics that amazed his family and friends. He used his music to relax, deal with life's problems, and to simply enjoy the musical gift that he had been given. When Nigel was 19 years old, he withdrew from Norfolk State University, where he was majoring in Business, to pursue a career in financial services. He decided that rather than go to school for two more years to learn how to become a businessman, he would go into the business world immediately and learn the skills needed to become a licensed financial advisor. For the next year and a half, Nigel pursued his career goals in financial services. He worked 16 hour days to learn the business, studied to get every license he needed, and broke all kinds of sales records as he won award after award from his organization. At this time, Nigel forced himself to put a hiatus on his music to focus solely on his business for an entire year. Eventually, the thing that had once brought him so much joy was almost forgotten; he even packed his keyboard and put it on a shelf. Then one day, his momentum seemed to change. No matter how hard he tried, the sales seemed to stop coming, and finally, the worst thing that could happen happened--he began to lose his love, his fire, for his new career. Nigel began asking God what was going on and seeking God for an answer. One night, Nigel attended a Christian Rap youth event. He had not planned to attend and actually did not want to, but went at the urging of his girlfriend. It was at this event that he was reminded of his lost love...music. His eyes were opened to those who were combining their love for God with their love of music. He left that event feeling more alive than he had for weeks. That same night, sitting in I-Hop, running into several of the people who had been at the event, Nigel realized that Christian Rap could be used effectively to reach the youth and uplift God! While eating, talking, and feeling something he had not felt for a long time, pure happiness, God spoke to him. God told him to start writing music again. This time, however, God said, "I want you to write music that praises Me." God said He wanted Nigel to rediscover his love for music, the gift that God had given him. God reminded Nigel of a promise He had made to Nigel many years before. God had promised that He would make Nigel a power in business and his experiences in financial services would help him fulfill this goal. Now that Nigel had learned what God wanted him to learn, God wanted him to leave that job and pursue music full-time. But, God said, "If you do not write music that praises me, it will not prosper." The next day two things happened-Nigel unpacked his keyboard and he lost his love for his career in financial services. Less than two weeks later, Nigel quit his job and began working full-time writing music that praises God. God told Nigel not to worry about money because his gift would make a way for him, and for the last six months, Nigel has never gone without. Since Nigel has been following the path that God laid before him, he has been amazed by the way God has been rewarding his faithfulness. God has given Nigel a desire to reach youth with his music. God told Nigel to use his musical talents to spread the Word of God and let the youth know that they do not have to go to clubs to have fun. He wants the youth to know that they can come to the house of God and have fun by listening to God's Word and God's music. Nigel describes his ministry as "preaching to a beat."
