Linda Russell Live at the East Coast Jazz Festival
Ms. Russell is a Washington-based performer who has dazzled audiences with her forceful musical presence and sizzling interpretations across a wide variety of musical genres. She began singing in gospel choirs in Philadelphia, and was introduced to theater when she moved to Maryland. She has appeared in local performances of "Nunsense", "Ain't Misbehavin", and "Showboat"; won the Best Supporting Actress in the Maryland One Act Festival for "Actor's Nightmare"; and toured in the first regional production of the Broadway hit "Swinging on a Star". She has performed in cabarets, clubs, churches and private functions throughout the Washington - Baltimore Metropolitan areas such as Twins Jazz Lounge, Mayflower Hotel, Willard Hotel, Source Theatre, Gaithersburg Arts Barn, Vicino Ristorante Italiano, and the Starland Café. Ms. Russell has performed several years at the East Coast Jazz Festival and became a finalist in the Fish Middleton Scholarship Competition & the Baltimore Arts Festival. She has had the pleasure to work with many accomplished musicians such as Tommy Cecil, Larry Eanet, Ron Elliston, James King, Ronnie Wells, Buster Williams, the Fred Hughes Trio and the late Ricky Loza. Ms. Russell also developed several successful shows, featuring her quintet, consisting of jazz, blues, showtunes, gospel, standards and pop music. A current member of the DC Cabaret Network, Ms. Russell was selected to participate in the 'Cabaret Conference @ Yale' in New Haven, Connecticut. Currently, Ms. Russell is lead singer for the group Swing'N On A Star and has just completed her CD entitled Linda Russell Live! At the East Coast Jazz Festival.
