Visiting a Swallow
Visiting A Swallow If you like jazz popular during the mid twentieth century (1940 - 1970), you may find this project very interesting. We are talking about swing, be bop, cool, mainstream, straight ahead, modern styles of jazz. We are thinking of such greats as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans, Art Blakely, Charlie Parker and a list that is too long to include here. But if you are fans of the eras, then you know what and who we are speaking and thinking of. This is the premise for the CD project 'VISITING A SWALLOW'. The birth of the idea developed at the passing of a jazz giant Lionel Hampton. 'VISITING A SWALLOW' is a special tribute to the legendary musician Lionel Hampton. He was a jazz great for over half a century. 'VISITING A SWALLOW' is a collection of original musical selections encompassing a variety of musical styles of yesterday and today. The most extraordinary thing about 'VISITING A SWALLOW' is it was generated entirely on a computer. Even the song titles on 'VISITING A SWALLOW' were randomly generated. It is music I made on a Mac; thus the band name MIMOAM. You cannot imagine the exhilaration I experience having the capability of recreating an era of music I loved so dearly on a computer even to this day. The musical themes, solos, instrumentation, styling and performances are remarkably true to form. I believe this could be an accurate representation of performances by Lionel Hampton if they had to be recreated by someone. The musical styling and executions of 'VISITING A SWALLOW' certainly brings Lionel Hampton and some of the other giants of this time period to mind when listening. The ideas and expressions cover periods from the swing era to be bop and modern jazz. An attempt (delightful I might add) was made to project Hampton's playing into more recent ventures like hip hop and techno. Though I never heard him play in some of these venues, it is interesting to note how compatible these projections seem to be. It does not appear to be as incongruent as trying to match a C&W musician with a classical player or a soul performer with a bluegrass entourage. At any rate, if you are a fan of jazz from the mid to late 20th century, you will find 'VISITING A SWALLOW' a delightful project to come by. ORDER A COPY OF 'VISITING A SWALLOW' TODAY.
