Long Way Down is an explosive hard rock band whose live performances have been creating a fan frenzy whenever they grace the stage. So much so that it has seen them share the bill with the likes of Bif Naked, Theory of a Deadman, Wide Mouth Mason, Default, The Trews, Grady, Thornley and the Armchair Cynics to name a few. The continual and consistent progression and evolution in everything related to their music has always been the bands prime mandate. This heavy-hitting quintet was conceived in the prairie capital city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in June of 2001. Long Way Down originated as a four piece project with vocalist Jakk Grandy, guitarist Steve Faulkner, drummer Gerred Cloutier and bassist Ryan Hueston. The original line-up has gone through several personnel changes at various points in time since their inception. Bass player Rob Komarnisky joined Long Way Down in June of 2004 replacing interim bass man Rob MacDonald. The group then amicably parted ways with drummer Gerred Cloutier in July of 2005 just weeks prior to commencement of their debut EP Recording. Nathan Kidd was recruited to fill-in for two performance commitments later that fall and officially joined in August 2005. Upon completion of tracking the EP in early January, guitarist Brian Makowsky answered a musicians wanted ad in Edmontons See Magazine and after just two rehearsals, it was apparent that Brians style worked well within the group. Brian completed the five man line-up in early February of 2006. Long Way Down performed in the Extreme Band Slam 2004 as part of the Canadian Music Week regional finals. Long Way Down was a winner of the 2005 Kokanee Free Ride Battle of the Bands and in July of 2005 competed in The Molson Canadian Rock Search with a top three finish out of fifty-six Canadian independent artists. Long Way Down's debut seven song EP showcases some of the band's strongest material to date. The power and passion evident in the 7 songs caught the ear of drummer Kenny Aronoff (Rolling Stones, Smashing Pumpkins, Jon Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan and Avril Lavigne) who spent 4 days in Edmonton in August of 2005 recording drum tracks for the EP. Long Way Down's forthcoming release: 'Trying Times' features songs like: Sick of it All' influenced by personal experiences with gun violence and 'Around the Bend' a war-driven rock anthem are accompanied by 5 other in-yer-face hard rock grooves to round out the 7 song disc. The EP was mixed by mixer, producer, engineer extraordinaire: Bill Kennedy (Nine Inch Nails, Filter, Nothing Face, Alice in Chains, Sepultura, Megadeth, Econoline Crush) and is scheduled for final pressing in September 2006. Long Way Down is currently in rehearsals while working on an aggressive schedule in support of their debut effort. With a fiery frontman, powerful anthems and an in your face live show, you can expect to see Long Way Down in a city near you very soon.
