Mirror of My Mind
M.terry gordon Michael's introduction to music came early on when at the age of 5 he began taking piano lessons. "I liked playing a lot more than practicing he recalls, and there came a point years later when playing piano was not nearly as much fun as playing with his friends. " Much to the chagrin of his mother, the lessons ended and for a while so did the music. Years passed....... "I remember the way the music affected people during the Vietnam War. The way the songwriters touched and influenced people and got them to think and feel. It showed that people cared and united us for a just cause, It still does." Listening to the music of Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Dan Fogelberg, to name just a few, Michael picked up an acoustic guitar. "Looking back I realize that it was that early education and formal training that made it easy for me to get back to playing music." It was the mid 70's, and along with a cello playing college buddy, they began playing the local music circuit, wine and cheese clubs, college coffee houses, and local NYC based pubs. "It was all just good fun". Then the eighties hit and life changed. This verse from his song "Sets Me Free" tells that story. "stumbled down that narrow road doing just as I was told dreams forgotten, buried deep just to eat and work and sleep and a paycheck every week." So the guitar went in the basement and life took over. Years passed..... "in 1991 I was introduced to Yoga and that divine spiritual path reawakened that yearning for self expression and spiritual growth. " As it is with many creative souls life cannot replace music, for music is such an essential element of life. Out came the guitar. A stint playing bass in a New York based rock band got him back on the stage, but the singer songwriter inside of him was much more passionate. "My songs don't necessarily come from one experience or relationship, but more often, are a single expression of the lessons learned from many experiences. I don't write songs because we need more songs, I write songs to release feelings, express dreams, and desire. If other people relate to my words, well that just reminds me of how similar and connected we all really are. That's the meaning of Yoga." This debut album contains songs that span many years of writing. "I tried to put a variety of songs and styles on this album, so there would be something for everyone.. Remember we come onto this planet as learners, not judges-let this life draw forth the best in who you are. "accept your dreams and let them be you be you and I'll be me unlock your heart you hold the key find the way to set your spirit free. Peace and Blessings M.
