Strength to Believe
The Macleans' musical journey has taken them from small rural churches to performing internationally. Beautiful vocals, unique harmonies and sweet personalities are trademarks of Rachel and Mary MacLean. Their musical versatility has allowed them to share the stage with award winning performers including The Rankins and American folk icon Don McLean! Growing up in the picturesque Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada provided much inspiration for song-writing. Rachel, the songwriter of the duo, expressed the deep love the sisters have for their Maritime home in their 1996 release 'Captured Time'. The album introduced fans to a contemporary folk style adding yet another unique sound to Canada's East Coast. Recording their debut album was the next logical step after being featured on CBC radio and television the previous year. Their followup self - titled album offered a fresh collection of intelligent originals by Rachel plus music by some of Canada's most prolific songwriters including Lennie Gallant and Kevin Evans. With 'The Macleans', the sibling duo impressed many by maintaining their quality sound, bridging upbeat easy-listening songs with signature ballads . 'Fisherman's Wife', 'Northern Lights' and 'Red Red Rose' continue to be fan favorites. The true meaning of Christmas came to life in the 2002 'Reflections Of Christmas' release. This album includes traditional yuletide classics such as 'O Holy Night' and focuses on the lighter side of the holiday season with songs like 'Rockin Around The Christmas Tree'. Rachel and Mary showcase rich vocal performances and treat listeners to a special guest appearance by ECMA Award winner Dave Gunning. The album has been an independent success story with over 3000 copies sold and led to a 2003 television special that is now available on DVD! The Macleans musical roots really shine in their new release 'Strength to Believe'. This much anticipated album brings together a collection of inspirational songs, familiar hymns, and beautiful originals that deliver messages of friendship, faith, hope and love.
