Product Notes

'Warhol Highway, Brando Skies... Deliver me, to waiting eyes....' Performing Songwriter Magazine named Mare Lennon's debut CD 'Chasing Sacred' a Top Twelve DIY Pick. 'Warhol Highway' is the follow-up CD for this native of St. Paul, Minnesota. Lennon moved to Los Angeles working with top singer-songwriters in an incredible circle of friends. Those very talented performers include: Matthew Lee, Edward Tree (producer) Robin Pearl, Jill Holly, Amilia k Spicer, Mark Islam, Maia Sharp, Hugo Fernandes, Lisa Johnson, Claudia Russell, James Grey, Severine Browne and James Cobberly Smith. 'Warhol Highway' is the musical journal of the venture into and out of Los Angeles. Featuring seven originals by Lennon, and two covers: 'Love Don't Care' (written by Matthew Lee) was picked up for placement in the independent film 'Burning Annie'. The beautiful guitar work of Edward Tree echoes the folk/jazz vocal of Lennon, who brings to mind Nora Jones on this stellar track. 'California Stars' (lyrics by Woody Guthrie, music by Tweedy & Burnett) is given a melancholy, more contemplative spin, where California is missed, much like a long lost friend or lover. 2001 brought a move back to the Twin Cities for Lennon. 'Warhol Highway' is the musical journal of the venture into and out of Los Angeles. Stand out tracks include: 'Exit Babylon' brings elements of folk, middle eastern, and hip-hop rhythms and textures to create a sensual backdrop for the caravan into and out of Los Angeles. 'I drove into Babylon, a black cat at my side...' 'Warhol Highway' Title track, Study of the lanes we pick in life, chosing the road over a more conventional life. 'The Beauty of your Life' they tell me is you can just pack up and go'- 'The Beauty of your Life' I tell them, 'You have someone who will say no-' 'Hat in Hand' features Matthew Lee and Edward Tree creating a lush jazz/blues backround for this tale of a lover's apology: 'Trying to figure out what shoes to wear, I chose the ones that'll just, get me there'.... 'Revolving Door' is a tale of two potential lovers caught in a revolving door. 'Will you practice magic, or slight of hand, again?' 'Where Mercy Finds Me' The exquisite guitar playing of Edward Tree paints the backdrop for this most timely and optomistic exit. 'I can't give into the dreams that you weave, the cheap tricks you use, you forget, I've already been seduced..' Mare Lennon grew up surrounded by music. Taking the varied influences of jazz, folk, and rock, she has woven these colors along with life experiences into songs that possess imagination and heart. Whether backed by a band, or more preferably, acoustic solo, audiences respond in kind to this voice on the L.A. and now, Twin Cities, singer/songwriter circuit. In 2002 Lennon was chosen to participate in the Cheryl Wheeler songwriter workshop by the Lavalee Family Trust in Salt Lake City UT. 2001 brought a prize win for the IAMA/KRCL singer-songwriter competition in Partk City UT. Othe contests include: a national finalist in the Wildflower Music Festival songwriting competition in Richardson Texas, and the Wintertide Songwriting Contest in Martha's Vineyard. Performances include: the OXYGEN Tank Tour, the Durango Songwriter's Expo, the Freemont Theatre's 'Listening Room Concert Series', the National Academy of Songwriter's 'Acoustic Underground' at the Troubadour, Billy Block's Western Beat (Nashville and Los Angeles), and featured performer on 'Local Licks' a showcase for talent on L.A.'s KLOS FM 95.5. 'She knows how to write a knock-out love song' -Performing Songwriter Magazine 'Chasing Sacred is a beautiful head dive into a fountain of sparkling ideas and refreshing insight.' -Independent Songwriter Web Magazine 'a stellar performance' -Michele Marker, Events & Promotions OXYGEN Tank Tour, Oxygen Media 'an unbelievable piece of work, Chasing Sacred, takes you by the heart and hand, and demands you never forget it' -Bill Hartew, Producer, KLOS FM Los Angeles 'Mare Lennon's voice is an instrument that could stand alone' -A. Murray, SB Weekly/Los Angeles Times *********LYRICS************** EXIT BABYLON M. Lennon/Lennonade Music/SESAC I drove into Babylon - A black cat at my side Even she said 'Something's wrong..' just looking at that sky But I want to be - that- siren on that screen I want to be- the- one to make em scream... So I worked that streets of Babylon - Trying to catch your eye Painted ruby lipstick on - a tattoo on my thigh Then came the blue-flash-of irradescent light Nothing will be- the- same after tonight... A New World Calling Babylon falling A New World Calling Babylon falling Trust in the dawning, trust it is coming This New World calling me away... I made my way through Babylon- Guided by the fires Saints and sinners partied on - Bless the chosen and admired On this new night I will not feel this fear only will Pray for safe passage out of here CHORUS Take me to the Oasis, where I can place this Love between you and I Just let me live in these days we are given For love will protect this flight Love will protect us tonight Since the days of Babylon - Visions have returned Rhythms of a brand new song - Cross the bridges that were burned CHORUS WARHOL HIGHWAY M. Lennon/Lennonade Music/SESAC Warhol highway- Brando skies- Deliver me To waiting eyes I'm rolling past all I've questioned, Rolling past all I've missed Suddenly I remember It's been forever Since I've been kissed... Out here on the Warhol Highway Soccer mom next to me She is traveling 75 mph I am going 73- 'The Beauty of your Life' they tell me 'You can just pack up and go..' 'The Beauty of your Life' I tell them 'You have someone who would say 'no'' I will meet you on the Warhol Highway For 15 minutes, or less- We could pull over grab some grub, I am going to need some gas... Order up a bowl of Campbells... Pull out our compass and spin.. You never know what direction This highway will pull you in.... CARPET RIDE M. Lennon/Lennonade Music/SESAC Baby I just heard the news Can't make heads or tails Don't know what to say..do you? Let's hope level hearts prevail Maybe is I rub this old lamp Buff it up to shine Maybe we'd stand half a chance If I could just get this rag to fly What do you say we Levitate? What do you say we try? What do you say we take it all away On this Carpet Ride? Let's create a spectacle...you and I On this Carpet Ride I only know I love you now So sit here next to me I will hold you safe somehow Against random snakes and random thieves For Fourty days and Fourty nights We could hit the sky Disappear, deviate, glide On this Carpet Ride Think of the headlines...you and I On this Carpet Ride If we coudl clear the crowds, we could clear the wires If we could clear the clouds, we could clear the fires What do you say we levitate? What do you say we try? What do you say we give them one good reason To look to the sky Let's give them all an eyeful of you and I On this Carpet Ride from the middle of the East to the middle of the West from the belly of the beast, to the heartbeat in my chest I will not let you down, will not let you fall... We'll rise...rise above it all.... Hat In Hand M. Lennon/Lennonade Music/SESAC Beat up strings - beat up notes I stuff 'em into an overstuffed overcoat Tryin' to figure out what shoes to wear I choose the ones that'll just get me there Evidence of a lovers crime So hard to finger - hard to define Just who it was who said those things? Baby even though it was, it just wasn't me Maybe we could go back in time If I could just get - back in time with my Hat in Hand - with my hat in hand... I make my way through Tuesday's rain I make my way to your window pane There's no one else to blame still there's this Strange Beauty, to my shame Cause now I have someone to 'fess up to Someone to say 'Babe, I've messed up' to - with my Hat in Hand - with my hat in hand It's here, that your hobo stands with her Hat in hand I seek the comfort of my baby's eyes I seek forgiveness do you realize that there is No one else that I would fight for like this For me there's no other kiss..... REVOLVING DOOR M. Lennon/Lennonade Music/SESAC I always thought love was something, something- you'd find a way to deny You felt I thought love was something something- in the end would surely die So, if we've made our minds up, and all that's clear- tell me Why all the shadows and the ghosts my dear? Can't you see the heaven, in the all we fear, so near... You and I in a Revolving Door You and I always involving more- Than meets the eye - What did you come here for? You and I - Revoiving Door. Through this glass we dance and circle, circle- Arounds love that's half alive Just like Eagle's tend to circle, circle In a specualting sky Will there come a day when you take my hand Do you have the answers that the heart demands? Will you practice magic, or slight of hand? again.... You and I in a Revolving Door You and I always involving more- Than meets the eye - What did you come here for? You and I - Revoiving Door. Open Wide, so forgiving Or slam tight on the living.... Given all the signals -given the signs I may never know what you have in mind but Someday soon the secrets will spill like wine... Cheap Wine.... You and I in a Revolving Door You and I always involving more- Than meets the eye - What did you come here for? You and I - Revoiving Door. WHERE MERCY FINDS ME M. Lennon/Lennonade Music/SESAC When I say goodbye, just know I don't go willingly The choice is not mine - It's simply come time I will think of you - carry you with me in all I see and do You know what it takes to survive- Well darlin' I'm just trying to stay alive Pardon me Boys For leaving too soon Pardon my joy, but I'm going Where mercy finds me Your voice brushes my skin- It's lethal to listen you know I can't give in to The dreams that you weave, the cheap tricks you use You forget - I've already been seduced Pardon me Boys For leaving too soon Pardon my joy but I'm going Where mercy finds me Love once it held me here Love nearly killed me here You know that's true- you know that's true And as I wave goodbye I will not cry Pardon Me boys For leaving too soon Pardon my joy But I'm going Where Mercy finds me Where Mercy finds me... FREQUENCIES M. Lennon/Lennonade Music/SESAC Heaven knows I'm a patient girl heaven knows I've treid To take in stride this time I bide In these visions - in these scenes In these waking dreams I feel a love that's yet to be I pick it strong - pick it up clear Are you here? Pick it up strong - my dear CHORUS I pick you up on Frequencies Frequently I pcik you up on Frequencies Frequently Telepathic or Kinetic Call it what you will Call it now while in the air So concentric So electric I can't get my fill If I turn, will you be there? When I pick it up strong... Pick it up clear Are you here? Pick it up strong my dear... CHORUS LOVE DON'T CARE Written by Matthew Lee (ASCAP) There was a time when you'd come running Into my arms, fearing nothing- Giving in to momentum The evening wind would blow through my dress Lift us up to weightlessmness But you must have got scared, I guess. But Love Don't Care - Where the feelings hide Love believes- what's inside Love will find- what the heart will need- I'm looking for you,- Look for me in that place where you keep your dreams Safe from what the cruel world brings There must be - a voice that sings There must be a sweet sweet song In the place that still holds on cuase baby We belong. CHORUS Love will find- What the heart will need- I'm llokkin' for you- baby Look for me CALIFORNIA STARS Lyrics - Woody Guthrie W.
