Marlene Hajdu has worked as composer and orchestrator in Hollywood. She composed music for the 74th Annual Oscar Awards for a special presentation given by the Kodak company, and her music for the documentary, 'Marion's Triumph,' won the 2004 Library Review award. Her music for, 'Monkey Love', the Indie film that won Best Digital Feature Film at the Big Bear International Film Festival in 2003, is a contemporary score with songs--'Fitting and appropriate,' writes Variety of her music, after it's airing at the Seattle Film Fest. She composed music for theater at the Power House Theater in Santa Monica, and at the Renegade Theater in the No Ho Arts District. Recent work with the Alliance Theater on The Hostage, garnered four LA Theater Alliance awards, four Ovation Award nominations, as well as being voted one of the top ten picks for theater in LA for 2003. Marlene's early musical background includes playing piano, organ, sax, flute, and singing in the choir. She attended Bowling Green State University and studied music at the Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles with teachers like Allyn Ferguson and Claire Fisher. After receiving her degree in Arranging and Composition and then Film Music Composition, she continued studies with David Angel and Ron Gorow. Ms. Hajdu has worked supporting many composers by proofreading, music prep and also orchestrating - Joan Chen's Xui Xui the Sent Down Girl, Ghostship, and Chicago Hope. John Williams, Randy Newman, Stewart Copeland and Conrad Pope are some of the composers she has worked for. Marlene's concert works have been heard as part of the Pacific Composers' Forum concert series, and on Sundays at 4:00, a live radio broadcast from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has premiered concert works at UCLA, Occidental College, Pasadena City College and the Brand Library Concert Hall with The Composers Group.
