Beyond the Here & Now
Rick was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He was adopted by William and Gloria King. He invited the Lord into his life at the age of 16, in 1982. A short time later, he began a long time relationship with contemporary christian music. In college he became a morning drivetime disc jockey for the college radio station playing the christian rock format. His show was very popular and because of it, he met many of the 'superstars' in the christian music scene. Among those who have influenced him were David Meece, Leon Patillo, Mylon Lefever, Bryan Duncan, Petra, Stryper and the Rez Band. It was durring this time that he began to write songs and sing, with his first band, name Emmaus. Mercydeep began life as the name of an independent record label to release the works of Rick King. He had been recording music for a number of years and felt that it was time to share his creations with the rest of the world. After his first release, he changed the name of the label to Only One Way Records, a name that better reflects the guiding force behind all of his music- Jesus Christ. As time went on, he released several CD's as a solo artist, mostly in the pop R&B style. Then in 2006, he decided to focus more on the electro-dance styles that he just loved. Recognizing the absence of this type of music in the Contemporary Christian Music scene, he wanted to try and fill the void. So Mercydeep, the band, was born. Creating Dark Synth Textures with emotional lyrics set to modern electronic dance grooves, he has produced 'Beyond the Here and Now' the first release by Mercydeep. The goal is to get the listener to think beyond this life, to what is to come. Influenced by bands like Covenant, Rotersand, Mind in a Box, and Pride and Fall, he devoted more than a year to writing the material on this disc.
