All for the Best
I recorded these songs as I was finishing my senior year at NYU. 1. Promise - I have a secret wish to be a Bond girl. 2. So Close... - I wrote this song on my spring break junior year of high school. We were in Florida on vacation and I was pining for a tennis player who had moved from Oklahoma to Florida 3 years before. 3. All For The Best - I wrote this song as an assignment for my songwriters hall of fame workshop that I took in 2004. Lorraine Ferro rocks as a teacher by the way. 4. Already Gone - Tracks 3 and 4 should definitely be dedicated to Mr. William Robert Thomas. This is actually my very favorite song on the album. I was going for a classic-rock/power ballad feel. And I love the chords under the chorus. This is the only track with a guest singer; my little sis takes the lead vocals during the bridge. She was only 15 at the time. 5. You and I - This is the third song I ever wrote (not counting Pigs on the Mountain, which I wrote at 4 years old). I was in 8th grade. Once at a songwriting workshop I attended, they told me the B section lyrics were too insecure and for a while I thought about rewriting them, attributing the problem to my age when I wrote the song. But I don't really think you ever outgrow that vulnerability in new relationships. Hopefully someone out there can relate to it too. 6. Lullabye - This might be the strongest song on the album vocally for me. And yes, the misspelling in the title is intentional. 7. Broken - The lyrics for tracks 1, 4, 6, and 7 were written by the talented Shannon Murphy. She is a true poet and I am very grateful for the time we had to work together.
