The following is also found on the inside of the 'Still Waters' CD cover: I consider myself a fortunate person to live in such an interesting age. With so many new technologies, the creative spirit of mankind is revealed again and again. Many forms of technology have improved the quality of life and opened new possibilities that did not exist previously. Such is the nature and origins of electronic music. As electronics technology has progressed, so has this form of music making. A transition takes place for the musician- with the traditional role of performing live being transformed into a musical performance collaboration between human and computer. At this point in time, we categorize the computer as a tool, and it does not yet have the ability to think. But, what can a human teach it? In turn, what can it capture and reproduce, perhaps in ways different than how it was created initially? A new concept in music emerges. Much like one creates a great painting, a musical work becomes a nurtured creative process that results in the capture of sounds, with technological mediums (i. e., this CD) being the canvas. As such, my goal is to create music for the inner self. May it take you to places new, and awaken some ancient song hidden deep within you. Michael L. Colquitt.
