Just Like Vietnam
MICHAEL GILLOTTI A passionate songwriter and performer, Michael Gillotti weaves anti war and socially conscious songs with personal songs of love and peace. Just Like Vietnam, Michael's fourth album, captures the spirit of our times in beautifully poetic, folk rock style in the tradition of Bob Dylan and Donovan yet with his own unique voice and instrumentation. A gifted song writer, Michael draws on his experience during the Vietnam War to craft the title track of his latest album. He evolved from initially being a Conscientious Objector, refusing to "kill or be killed", to a draft resister, refusing to cooperate with the war making machinery in any way. He was arrested by the FBI and tried as a draft resister. He sees many parallels between Vietnam and Iraq, especially the horrific death and destruction rained down on innocent civilians and the toll it inevitably takes on our young soldiers and the very soul of our country. One line from his title track says it all, "The helicopters roar overhead, while below we count all the dead. You take away the jungle, and you put in the sand, and it's just like, just like Vietnam." At the same time Michael has studied yoga and meditation for many years and strives to find a balance between fighting against the cruelty and brutality of life and finding that inner place of peace and well being. You'll be touched and inspired by his insight, poetry, passion and beautiful voice. Michael lives with his lovely wife and daughter on an apple orchard in northern California.
