I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and my family moved across the river to Jersey City, New Jersey. As I got older I realized I had a good voice. I could imitate nearly everything I heard. In High School I sang with a Doo-Wop group. We played a lot of venues in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. I was musical director. I created the arrangements - either scoring new material from popular songs, or reworking acappella classics. We became an award winning group, and recorded background vocals for Billy Joel. When we finally parted ways I kept singing on my own. One night I tuned in "Showtime at the Apollo" - the original musical competition show. It dawned on me, "I should give this a try." I called the Theater, and went to open auditions the next day. Usually you have to wait months for a callback, but they asked if I could be there the following night, and by the end of that evening (in a field of 24 contestants) the audience was chanting my name. I sang "Reasons" by Earth, Wind & Fire, an ultimate R&B classic. I appeared there so many times by invitation over the next several years that my nickname became "Mr. Reasons". A record company took an interest in me at that point, and I started writing. The deal went sour, but that didn\'t deter me. My confidence in my writing has grown. And it's backed by an appreciation of myself as a great singer. The songs on this album are all my own original work. Written, produced and sung by me - including the background vocals. I hope you like it.
