The composer was a visionary, but also a prodigious 'storyteller'. The French pianist's interpretation reveals both strands in the work, while also bringing out to the full the formidable, spectacular virtuosity of the four Études d'exécution transcendante and the poetic profundity of Vallée d'Obermann.
