Product Notes

Mike Lennon is a Phoenix based artist, who began his music career playing in Greenwich Village in the 80s. Moving to Arizona in the early 90s, He now plays at The Rusty Spur Saloon as a solo and is bassist with The Psychobilly Rodeo Band. Too Many Psychos Mike Lennon's debut solo CD was recorded at Russ Reiter's studio in Phoenix, Arizona 2000-2001 . ' The idea was to record songs I did with the Psychobillys and solo . I had a few rough tapes from the Psychobilly days so we used them as a guide but we added alot of new ideas so it sound like it was recorded on 2000 instead of 1989 . ' The title song Too Many Psychos was no.1 for four weeks at hardcore mix an internet radio station and the album has received excellant reviews in the media. (See my myspace for reviews of this CD). The album was was released on the PRP label in January 2003. Most of the songs were written for Mike's band The Psychobillies a band from Greenwich Village that played the New York City metro area in the 80's and disbanded in Jan.1992. Track By Track The CD kicks off with 'You Don't Wanna Be with Me' written by Mike Lennon and Marc West, this was the Psychobilly's opening number a fast minor keyed Rockabilly with horns. 'Too Many Psychos' the title track is a Johnny Rotten like rant written by Mike and Marc and has a classic 70's rock sound courtesy of Russ Reiter, lead guitar and pounding piano from Mike. 'Love Me Tonite' written by Mike and Ed 'Doc. Hi Life' Miller lead guitarist with the Psychobillys . Originaly written with a mix of Elvis vocals and Beatles type chords the song was transformed into reggae with a nice steel drum sample by Russ. 'No More' another song by Mike and Marc West is a Psychobilly tune with Dylanesque style social commentary reporting on the riots in Tompkyns Square and the killings in Tianamin Square China. 'I'm So afraid' a Roy Orbison kind song by Mike was written in Ajo, Arizona . This could be an album track on some obscure Roy Orbison album ! ' Hot and Dusty Trail ' written by Mike and The C & W Psychobillys bassist Danny Rybar is a Doors meets Marty Robbins tune with nice nylon string guitar by Russ Reiter . ' She Left Me ' written by Mike was originally recorded by Mike's pre Psychobillys band the Bumpkyns, in a straight up Elvis at Sun style. For Too Many Psychos it's been transformed with a Ravi Shankaresque raga riff intro before it turns into a Buck Owens Bakersfield style country rocker . ' All Alone' is another song written by Mike during the Bumpkyns days and is a classic tear in my beer styled George Jones song. Next up is 'One and Only' a song written by Mike and Marc with a new bridge added by Mike. Imagine Tommy James Backed by the Cars for this one! 'We are Through' another Lennon, West song is kind of the Zombies meet Elvis on a Johnny Cash rythm track . It's back to the 50's for 'So Sad' a classic 'Blue Moon' styled Doo Wapper by Mike with great vocals .The CD closes with See See Ryder a neat remake of the traditional tune with horns and hot guitar. Heres a quote from Doug Floyd's review at alt.countrytab.com 'It is a tribute to the workmanship Of Lennon and the band that they have created a good solid set of songs such as this. It's good to know that for every Shania Twain and Alan Jackson in the world there is a Mike Lennon balancing off the karma in favour of the good guys'.
