Living Room Songs
I started writing songs when I was 51, after decades of strumming a guitar and singing other people's songs. Over the past ten years I've performed regularly in the monthly song circles of the Houston Folklore & Music Society, and similar song circles. I've also hosted two songwriter nights annually for a number of years, one at Houston's legendary folk club Anderson Fair, another for the folklore society's Second Saturday concert series. I occasionally open for someone, but never headline. For me, the real pleasure comes from sharing music in a song circle, whether in a living room or on stage. This recording is intended to be true to my live performances. My vocals and guitar were recorded live, but then some friends wanted to contribute so mandolin, fiddle, sax, and slide were added later to some of the tracks. Still, no song has more than 2 instruments, and there's a few harmony vocals, so the overall sound is what the reviewers refer to as 'sparse', which was my intent. And speaking of reviews, feel free to leave one by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. Thanks for listening.
