Monkey Trap is a hybrid of musical styles. Intelligent lyrics describe what goes on inside people and between people. The production is a diverse mix of acoustic based tracks, live band and solo performances with computer generated samples and loops. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Mimi Cross lives just outside of NYC near Red Bank, New Jersey. She plays throughout the tri-state area including Manhattan clubs like The Living Room, The Bitter End and CB's Gallery. Cross began performing solo, then later with a band, in Asbury Park, N.J. where she has shared the bill with national acts such as Chris Whitley, Jill Sobule and many others. She has opened at the PNC Bank Arts Center for artists such as Sting, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Lauryn Hill and Shawn Colvin. Mimi likes to play in Boston at places like The Kendall Cafe, and her favorite place to play in Philly is The Tin Angel. The influences of Cross' classical training, as well as her jazz studies, can both be heard in her song writing. Grammy award winning artist Rosanne Cash describes Cross' unusual work: 'Mimi fuses delicacy and power, heart and gut. Her writing and singing are inspiring, evocative and refreshing. It's a pleasure to have discovered her work.'
