The songs on Freedom are part of a new collection (with some old songs from an out of print CD 'Pure Mercy') that were written in 2005 and published in 2006. The songs are a little more guitar-oriented and come from some fresh ideas of the freedom of worship. The Visitors are anyone who have come to put their music and talent onto Missy's CDs. This CD has several different musicians on it - they are credited on her website under the Freedom Lyrics tab. Missy Thomas-Schmit is a classically trained pianist and 'cellist who began her career in music at the age of 5. Studying in Boston, she was encouraged by her parents to practice and to develop the gift she had into something wonderful. At age 14, she and her family moved to Claremont,California, where she continued her studies under the supervision of Gary Davenport. After a brief break from music to study chemistry, get married and start a family, she returned to the piano and continued her musical studies at Scripps College and Pitzer College in Claremont, California. She has her degree of Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. Missy loves sound, and loves recording and composing music. She will usually perform each instrument herself in the studio while recording, but welcomes other musicians to come and add their ideas and musicianship to her projects. The 'cello is featured frequently in her music, and it adds a unique and powerful edge to the intensity. In the worship setting, Missy has many years' experience in assisting leading worship and directing children, youth and adult choirs, and playing in and leading contemporary and traditional worship groups.
