Jazz & Such Chicago Style
The Jazz Friends Group is a group of jobbing musicians who have worked together and separately in various bands. In 1981, Roger suggested we get together during the Christmas holidays for a jam session. This was the start of a tradition that would last through the 80's. Some very excellent Chicago area musicians played at the jams through the years. This album features the four players who formed the core of the group. The Songs: All of the songs on this album are originals written by the group members. Blues for BJ was written by Roger Pauly. It was dedicated to Count BJ, a DJ on one of the local jazz stations. BJ loved jazz and was a promoter of local talent. Samba de Sloan is a great Samba written by Don Markese for his soon to be, lovely wife. Some excellent flute work by Don. Misty Rain is a moody and sad ballad written by Roger Pauly. It was written for us who have had troubles in our love life.Vocal by Ralph Napolitano. Definitely Not the Blues is a swinger written by Ralph Napolitano and Roger Pauly. Some excellent trumpet work by Roger. Blues to Snooze was the last song recorded and sort of came together after a long studio session.Roger just blew a riff and it just happened. Skating with Sandy was written by Roger Pauly for his lovely daughter.
