Product Notes
Originally released in 2000 on the influential Takehold Records, New Wave Techno Homicide by Narcissus stands as one of the most creative, genre-defying, and emotionally gripping albums to emerge from the early 2000s underground heavy music scene. It arrived at a crucial moment in the rise of spirit-filled hardcore, released alongside defining records by Underoath, Hopesfall, Twothirtyeight, Few Left Standing, and Stairwell. While many of their labelmates would go on to sign with larger labels and achieve broader recognition, Narcissus took a more daring, experimental route-blending mathcore chaos, screamo urgency, industrial atmospheres, and melodic metalcore into a sound that still feels fresh and untamed.
New Wave Techno Homicide was ahead of it's time. Musically intense and lyrically profound, the album explores themes of technology, identity, and spiritual longing with a rare depth. Mechanical despair crashes into poetic beauty, as the band moves effortlessly from punishing breakdowns to ambient introspection. It is an album that blurs boundaries, challenges assumptions, and demands repeated listening. Two and a half decades later, it's impact hasn't dulled-it's only deepened.
The lineup featured John Pope on vocals (later of Symphony in Peril), John LaRussa on guitar (who would go on to form Inhale Exhale), Justin Carroll on bass, Derek Carter on drums, and was originally mastered by James Paul Wisner, known for his work with Underoath and Dashboard Confessional. Following the album's release, Narcissus toured on the now-legendary 40 Days of Disaster Tour, sharing stages with Underoath, Few Left Standing, and Tantrum of the Muse, solidifying their place in the heart of the hardcore underground.
Now, Bombworks Records proudly presents the long-awaited 25th Anniversary Edition, officially licensed from Century Media Records. This release is limited to just 300 CD copies, housed in a jewel case with an 8-page full-color lyrics insert, and features new reflections from Loyd Harp (Call & Response Records) and Doug Peterson (Down the Line Magazine). The album has been remastered by Rob Colwell (King's X, Believer, Nevermore) for improved clarity and power, giving this monumental work the sonic upgrade it so richly deserves.
For fans of Zao, Botch, Coalesce, Deadguy, and Bloodjinn, this reissue is far more than a nostalgia trip-it's a rediscovery of a record that helped shape a scene, stretch the limits of faith-based hardcore, and push creative boundaries with fearless intensity.
