Neil Graham Neil William Graham, born 1946. Vocals/Harmonica/Dobro/Jews harp Prominent underground harmonica player/singer/songwriter. Neil began his career in the coffee lounges of Melbourne, in the mid 1960s as a regular harmonica sidesman with folk singers and blues players. Throughout the 1970s He fronted regularly as singer/harmonica player in a number of Melbourne's blues bands, and was also ocasionally seen as guest artist with bands as diverse as Captain Matchbox, Pigface and Madder Lake. Following a move to NSW in 1980, Neil featured as a regular performer with various line-ups culminating in a five-year commitment as front man for Blue Roots 993-1998. In recent years, his work in the upgrading and customising of Hohner Marine Band harmonicas has earned him international acclaim. In 2001, Neil attended the World Harmonica Festival and was rated 8th in the World Harmonica Championship with a rating of 'excellent' in the category of Folk/Blues Diatonic. In 2002, a Churchill Fellowship enabled him to travel extensively in the United States. This fellowship gave Neil the opportunity to interact and learn from the best and most respected harmonica players/technicians in the world. He is in great demand as a Harmonica Technician, and supplies custom harmonicas to players of the calibre of Jim Conway, Chris Wilson, Rory McLeod and many others, both in Australia and overseas. However, a proportion of his time is spent writing and recording blues and gospel music. Neil recently made his 7th appearance at the 8th Telstra Great Southern Blues and Rockabilly Festival, 2003. It was here that he introduced his latest recording 'As A Spark'. An album featuring a selection of Neil's original songs.
