Ten Years Learning My Name
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a New Yorker for over ten years, Neil Poynter is the product of blues roots, folk upbringing and rock n' roll independence. His heart is Howlin' Wolf, his voice Neil Young, and his songs somewhere between your dad's Merle Haggard and your girlfriend's John Mayer. Neil has been writing and performing for over fifteen years. He studied music and theatre at a performing arts conservatory in New York and has continued to hone his craft as a songwriter and artist. Ten Years Learning My Name, his self-released debut album, is an acoustic homage to ten years coming up in the city. Recorded at home on a borrowed four-track and polished in the studio, it's a lo-fi close-up on the songs those years produced and a glimpse at the road ahead.
