Remember when you were a kid there was a family down the street who had eight children? You could tell just by looking at them that they were a family, but when you really got to know all the kids you learned that each individual was unique. Well, that family is a lot like the music of Newton. Listen and you'll discover he's got a sound that is uniquely his own, but each of his musical collections is distinctive. His latest CD, WESTCOASTMOTION, proves the argument with a smooth, mellow feel that creates a different listening experience. His previous release NEWTONFUSION was also all -instrumental, but the new collection is generally more subtle, like the girl in that family of eight who was quieter than her older sister but more intriguing. The pace is measured and the melodies more fully developed than some of Newton's earlier work. It borders on New Age, but there is emphasis on percussion, particularly in the richly -layered tittle track WESTCOASTMOTION and the latin-inspired FUENTE. The newest CD is another way to sample the individual musical collections in the Newton family.
